We've been spending a lot of time in our little paddling pool on the back deck. I've taken pictures, but so far Elliot has refused to wear anything, so I'll spare you the full frontals.
So today we decided another great way to cool off would be to get some homemade ice cream. There's a wonderful place in the middle of nowhere that sells fresh ice cream made at a local dairy. Mmmmmm.
Inside, Elliot was excited to say hello to Adora Bell the cow.
We ate our ice cream overlooking the beautiful Warwick Valley.
Elliot's was melting before he even started. Within minutes we were both covered in chocolate. He loved it.
From there we drove to my favorite place, the botanical gardens. He was asleep by the time we arrived, so I parked in a cool place and pulled out my laptop to do some work. Suddenly a stream of cars peeled into the parking lot. Out jumped hundreds of high school students glammed up for their senior prom. It was like a scene out of Footloose. The excitement, the energy, the awkward foot shifting around their dates. Everyone looked so gorgeous. Awww.
So much for a walk through the gardens. By this time Rob was heading home from work anyway, so we met up with him and went to a local burger joint for dinner. There was a candy machine where you put in a quarter and jelly beans come streaming out. Elliot thought this was about the most exciting thing he'd ever seen.
And finally, to finish off our day of summertime indulgence, we had to stop at Dairy Queen to make up for the ice cream Rob had missed out on earlier. The entire town seemed to be there, including a girls' softball team. It was like another scene out of Footloose.
How did we end up out here in the middle of rural New Jersey?
What a great day. Ten more weeks ahead of glorious summer!
