ROB HAS FINISHED HIS DISSERTATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After 5 years of hard work, agony, and sheer determination, he has achieved what we thought was a never-ending project.
He still has inevitable revisions after his committee has read it, plus he has his defense in August, and then possibly more revisions - but the daily grind of nonstop principal writing is over. He emailed his 280-page paper to his chair at midnight on Tuesday night.
HALLELUJAH!!!
Celebrations began Wednesday morning with waffles. Then dinner out for wings, ribs, and beer. Then home to rock out with Guitar Hero, which he bought on sale months ago and saved for the occasion. He has a closet full of dozens of movies and goodies he's been collecting over the past 5 years for his post-doctoral life.
Tonight Rob and I had a celebration date and went out to dinner. Yes, a real date! For the first time in eons! Amazing!!!
So now we'll pray that his committee loves his work and doesn't make him do massive rewrites. Please, please, please!
Thank you to all who prayed, supported, offered sympathy, etc.
And a special, enormous, mega, massive, spectacularly huge thank you to Rob's dad, who has spent the last month donating hours and hours and hours to the cause, working with Rob on every single sentence of those 280 pages.
Rob, I am in awe of your perseverance, courage, and dogged persistence.
We are so very proud of you!

What a huge, huge accomplishment, Rob! Having watching you suffer through some of it while trying to balance work and family, I know this is enormous cause to celebrate. Life gets even better now!
