Many years ago, we learned that there is a branch of the Quickes who are globally recognized for their excellent cheeses. We didn’t really know if we’re related, but there are so few Quickes around, especially with an ‘e’, that we thought the chances were pretty good. Apparently Sir John Quicke was Lord of the Manor of the village of Newton St. Cyres. His daughter Mary runs the farm and cheese company. Back in 1999, when Rob was doing his radio show in Wellingborough, he interviewed her and she sent him a box of cheeses. We’ve been wanting to get to Devon ever since to meet our long lost relatives. Finally, we had our chance.
It’s only an hour and a half from Minehead, so after everyone said farewell and went their separate ways, we booked it down to Devon to have a spot of lunch at the Quicke’s Farm Kitchen.
And then Mary herself appeared and gave us a warm welcome.
She was full of energy and very happy to share that the day before they’d won first place for the best goats milk cheddar in Britain. Congratulations, Quickes!
Our local Shoprite in Warwick, NY, often stocks their cheese, and we always buy it when we see it. So have a look in your local supermarket – you never know!
It was such fun to finally make it down to the family farm!

Fabulous! So many things to do and taste and experience. How fun that at home you are in an area of our country that has some cool places too - especially one that sells Quickes cheeses. Amazing. I'll look, but I'm guessing that I won't be so fortunate here in Kansas.
