Yes, it seemed as if Rob's PhD exams were never going to end. First, he slaved through 2 days of grueling written exams. Then, he planned to do an oral defense in person in Virginia a week later. But they postponed it. And then postponed it again. It was starting to look like they were going to drag this thing out til Christmas. But at last, on November 3rd, Rob faced a panel of stoic academics to try to convince them that he knew his 3 years of coursework inside and out. Of course, I never had any doubts that he would sail through it. And that's exactly what he did. He passed with flying colors! They actually said they were "astounded" at the depth of some of his answers.
I'm so proud! Not to mention relieved. The level of stress around here has dissipated immeasurably. Finally!!!!
So Rob is now officially ABD - all but dissertation. Ah, yes, that little detail. We needn't think about that until well after Christmas...
