labor day weekend with nanny and grampy

We had so much fun with Rob's parents last weekend! In an amazing display of grandparental love and devotion, they drove 14 hours from Chicago to see us - and that after barely setting foot at home after a summer of travel in England. They were exhausted but determined, and we had a fantastic time of catching up together.

They stayed at a pretty little hotel on Greenwood Lake. What a view!
We had a fun day out in Warwick and Sugar Loaf Village - that is, until Elliot fell off a porch and onto sharp wire. I saw blood and panicked! It wasn't a stellar parental performance on my part - I clearly need to take a first aid course!
Anyway, before all the drama, we had a very nice time wandering around the shops.
It was such a beautiful day, we decided to go down to the beach for one last hurrah of the season. Michael sacrificially spent one day of their visit at Chuck E Cheese with Elliot. It's debatable who came up with the idea (Rob!), but somehow Elliot firmly believed that Nanny and Grampy were going to take him there. Carol managed to escape that fate, but Michael was stuck. He's a noble man!
The trip also somehow managed (Rob!) to involve a stop at Maggie Moos. Elliot was wired after cotton candy ice cream with gummy bears. He was a very happy boy - spoiled and crazy with sugar - but happy!
On Labor Day we drove to the Hudson Valley and visited Sunnyside, the home of Washington Irving, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle. He built a gorgeous little cottage on the banks of the Hudson. It's a beautiful place to spend an afternoon.

It was a great time for us all to be together. The kids were showered with love and attention, and even I was spoiled, as Carol did pretty much all the cooking! Thank you, Michael and Carol, for coming to see us!
