In 1974 - when he was at the height of his success (he was named Country Music Entertainer of the Year the next year) - he came to my parents' farm to record a video!
Apparently, Dad took him out on the tractor while Mom and my brother Russ watched. John Denver gave Mom his empty beer can, presumably so she could keep it as a souvenir. She's never been one to fawn over celebrities and promptly tossed it. ha!
Mom and Dad were promised a photo of Dad with John, which never materialized. They also never got to see the video.
UNTIL NOW!
Mom got a phone call earlier today from some mystery person who told her the song is now on YouTube. We did a quick search, and whadya know, there it is! Is the internet amazing or what?
Check it out! The tractor in the field was filmed at Dad's family farm (the tornado wasn't, thankfully!).

Awesome!
Very cool!
Our family has a connection to John Denver too. He is/was my mother-in-law's second cousin. We have a picture of him holding my husband (a baby at the time.) at a family reunion.
That "Grandma's feather bed" he sings about was just a few miles from here.
Cool! I've always wondered, when he sings about Rocky Mountain High ... is he referring to actual height?
Hmmm ...
