a very special Thanksgiving

I’m a wee bit late on posting about Thanksgiving! We had a wonderful week together with Rob’s parents!

Between Carol’s knack for decorating and my grandmother’s hand-stitched tablecloth, we had a beautiful Thanksgiving table!

And the turkey was delicious!

It was a feast for the soul!

It truly was a special week of family time. Living so far from extended family is hard, and we felt palpable relief to have a sudden dose of helping hands and grandparental love. Carol always spoils me by doing the majority of cooking and dishwashing. And of course the kids light up with the extra love and attention.

While they were here, the executive committee at Rob’s university approved Rob’s tenure! A great celebration ensued!

Post-Thanksgiving activities included Christmas decorating. Carol created a fun painted ‘tree’ for the kids to decorate

Meanwhile, Michael and Elliot spent days raking leaves. We had a solid blanket of leaves covering our entire yard, and they worked and worked to clear them. It was fun to see Elliot enthusiastic about actually taking part in the work.

Of course, it’s extra motivating when you get to ride in the wheelbarrow on the way back down from the leaf pile!

Their work paid off for Elliot in another way, too, when the leaves built up big enough to make a fortress in the woods!

Michael wrote about their adventures here:  http://michaelquicke.blogspot.com/2011/11/simple-joys.html

Of course, this was weeks ago already, and we’re well into Christmas preparations. More about that in the next post!

My boys would now want to jump into that luscious pile of leaves! Looks like a wonderful time together!

Wow, what a wonderful holiday! Keep these pictures for when they are teenagers and give you a hard time about raking!
So glad you got to spend some wonderful, quality time with your family.
