Anglesey Abbey

Back in the middle of February, the kids had half-term break, so we had a fantastic week out exploring. We spent one beautiful afternoon strolling around Anglesey Abbey, where we were highly cheered to see lots of spring blooms out already!

Anglesey is famous for its snowdrops, blanketing the grounds in white.

These silver birch trees are quite dramatic against the winter sky.

They had notebooks for the kids to make their observations, and Sophie seized the opportunity to practice her artistry skills.

There’s a water mill that processes wheat into flour. They let the kids push the wheel to make it turn. Pretty cool!

We bought a bag of the flour and feel oh-so-whole-foods.

So far on our travels the kids have gotten quite a few eyefuls of, shall we say, artistic renderings of the human form? They squeal with the scandal of it every time. 

My new best bud. I’m alarmed at the similarities.

How do they get the branches to grow in perfectly straight lines??
